Privacy policy
The short version: your bank statement never leaves your device. We don’t have accounts, ads or tracking cookies. We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or identify you, and we keep an anonymous count of how often the checker is used.
Your bank statement
When you use the statement checker, the file is read and analysed by code running in your browser. It is not uploaded to us or anyone else, and we never see it. Closing or refreshing the page discards it.
Data stored on your device
If you mark a charge as “Not a subscription”, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so the checker remembers it next time. It stays on your device and you can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Calendar reminder files (.ics) are created in your browser and downloaded straight to your device.
Cookies
CancelCompass doesn’t set cookies for tracking, advertising or analytics.
Information other services receive
- Hosting. The site is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and keeps it in server logs for security and to deliver the site.
- Fonts. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser information when the fonts download.
- Visit statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. When a page loads, a small script sends Cloudflare the page address, the page you came from, your browser and device type, and page-load timing. Cloudflare receives your IP address to make the connection and to work out your country. It doesn’t set cookies, use local storage or build a profile of you. We only see totals, such as how many people visited a page. The statement checker never sends your statement or results to Cloudflare.
- Links to other sites. Guides link to official help pages. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Anonymous usage count
To know whether the checker is useful, we count how often it is used. After you load a statement or try a sample, your browser sends us one short message with four labels: whether it was your file or a sample, the file type (CSV, OFX or QIF), the country you picked, and roughly how many subscriptions were found (none, 1 to 3, 4 to 7, or 8 or more). Nothing else is sent: no transactions, amounts, merchant names, dates or statement, and we don’t store your IP address with it. We only look at totals. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, nothing is sent.
When you send feedback on your results
Under your results you can tell us whether we got them right. If you press “Send feedback”, we receive only what the preview shows: your answer, the country you picked, the kinds of service we detected (for example “netflix” or “unknown”, with how often they repeat and our confidence), which ones you marked as not a subscription, and anything you type about missed subscriptions or your bank. We never receive your transactions, amounts, dates or statement. Feedback is stored with Cloudflare and used only to improve detection.
When you contact us
If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter. The message is stored with Cloudflare, our host. We use it only to reply to you and to fix the issue you report, and we delete it when it’s no longer needed or when you ask us to.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under UK GDPR, Canada’s PIPEDA or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we don’t collect statement data or run accounts, the only personal data we may hold is what you send through the contact form. To make a request, use the contact form.
Children
CancelCompass is not aimed at children under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top first.
